Well, I'm Alexis Rae Barnes. I turned 19 December 13th. I was born in Pennsylvania, but live in New York. Whenever I tell someone that they always think it's the big city part. But it's not. I live upstate in a rather small city called Elmira. :)
I'm currently majoring in Criminal Justice at Corning Community College, although lately God has been leading me away from that. I've been praying lately and this Missions College in Australia has kept getting placed on my heart. So, I guess you could say i'm kind of in transition.
I worked at a store call Five Below for quite some time. I started off as a cashier and then moved to working overnight on freight. It was pretty much a full-time job. I just recently quit due to falling behind in college, but ultimately because I was losing my focus on God. If I hadn't quit, I don't believe I would be here right now.
I LOVE basketball. Everything from playing to watching it. I'm one of those crazy people who get really into watching it :). I played all through high school, but unfortuantly not in college due to work. But it didn't stop me from doing it in my free time. I've been teaching myself guitar lately, which I love. I've also always wanted to live out in the country. I'm not a city girl, at all.
I used to be really shy until I got to know you well, however i've come out of my comfort zone quite a bit and am pretty much the opposite, now. I volunteer for a couple different organizations here such as Operation Christmas Child and the Pregnancy Resource Center. I also babysit, a lot. Sometimes I think it's worse than my old job, but I love it!
I have not been on a Missions Trip, letย alone out of the country before, so this will be my first time. Once I quit my job, I asked the Lord to just give me a passion and to break my heart for what breaks His. He immediately placed Human Trafficking on my heart. I've alwasy been interested in Human Trafficking, so once I found out there was a Missons Trip for it, I was ecstatic. At first, I was hesitant to apply because it would interfere with my college & summer plans. But God kept pushing and leading me to go, so I finally surrendered, got over my selfishness and applied. And here I am now! I'm so excited to see how God is going to grow and use us. I can't wait to meet you all! :)
